Not Enough Electricity in Texas
Texas State Rep. Rene Oliveira told Action 4 News that he's worried Texas will not have enough electricity during the summer months.
Rep. Oliveira Addresses Future of Electrical Needs - February 9, 2012
At an electricity hearing in Austin today, state officials told me that if the drought continues, Texans will have to conserve electricity this summer. If things don't change, by 2014 demand for electricity at peak times could exceed the power we will have available. Here is my brief, video report on the hearing: Click here.

Guadalupe Regional Middle School 10th Anniversary
Congratulations to Guadalupe Regional Middle School on its 10th anniversary. Guadalupe Regional is a tuition-free Catholic school for children from low-income families. The school is funded solely through donations. Over the years, about 150 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders have been helped by Guadalupe Regional.
Throughout my time in the Texas Legislature, I have always stressed the importance of education and keeping our children in school. The great people at Guadalupe Regional not only provide a fantastic academic foundation, but they also do so within the moral groundings of the Catholic Church. Both aspects will help students succeed in the future.
The school's Mardi Gras Masked Ball fundraiser will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Amigoland Convention Center, 1000 Mexico Blvd. in Brownsville. The event is black tie optional and includes a Cajun-inspired dinner, live jazz by A-Train Music Company and a masked ball featuring a variety of musical favorites. Tickets are $125 and can be obtained by calling (956) 504-5568 . All proceeds benefit the Guadalupe Regional Middle School.
I wish them the greatest success at the event and in the future.
